Biography
Ember Lea Miller is a Chicago-based clarinetist and educator whose career bridges performance, higher education, and mentorship. Beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year, she will join the faculty of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University as Artist-Teacher of Clarinet. She also serves on the faculties of North Central College and Lake Forest College. Across all of her appointments, Miller is committed to cultivating technically accomplished, expressive, and intellectually curious musicians who approach their artistry with confidence, empathy, integrity, and a spirit of collaboration.
As a performer, Miller has appeared as a concerto soloist with several ensembles throughout the Midwest. She also maintains an active career as an orchestral, chamber, and solo musician, having performed with numerous distinguished orchestras across the region.
A passionate and highly sought-after educator, Miller has taught and coached musicians ranging from beginners to professional performers for more than two decades. Her students have earned admission to nationally recognized colleges and conservatories and have gone on to successful careers as performers, educators, and arts leaders. Her teaching is rooted in technical excellence, thoughtful collaboration, and the belief that every student possesses the potential to become an expressive, independent artist. She believes the role of a teacher extends beyond technical instruction, guiding students to become thoughtful, independent artists capable of building meaningful and sustainable musical careers.
Miller holds degrees in Clarinet Performance from Michigan State University and Northwestern University, where she studied with Caroline Hartig and Steve Cohen, respectively. Whether performing on stage or working one-on-one with students, Miller is dedicated to fostering artistry, curiosity, and a lifelong love of music.
In her spare time, Miller enjoys traveling, exploring her home city of Chicago, and spending time with her husband, their two French Bulldogs, and their families.
