Reeds

Vandoren Blue Box is a standard! I believe every beginner should start with a strength 2.5. As you advance or your preferences change you can switch to harder reeds.

If you’re looking for a Vandoren reed with a little more depth, I’d recommend the V12’s. Most of my advanced students play on V12’s.

While the majority of my students are playing on Vandoren reeds, I’ve personally been liking the D’Addario Reserve Classics. I find they have better response and consistency, but the cane does not seem to last as long as the Vandorens.

The only plastic reeds worth purchasing. Use alongside cane reeds! I recommend not playing exclusively on plastic reeds. Note- size ¼ strength up!
